Jayhawks Open Weekend With Victory

WARWICK, R.I. — The Jamestown Community College women’s basketball team continued its winning ways Saturday in the first game of a weekend road trip in New England.

Alexis Rodenbaugh scored 16 points, and had eight rebounds, seven assists and five steals to lead the Jayhawks to a 56-47 non-conference victory over the CC of Rhode Island.

Olivia Lynn and Jesse Zenns added 11 points apiece for the winenrs, Taylor Phelps had eight rebounds and Haley Hettenbaugh brought down seven boards to go along with four assists.

The win improves Jamestown CC’s record to 5-0 on the season heading into today’s 1 p.m. game against nationally ranked University of Connecticut-Avery Point. The loss dropped the CC of Rhode Island to 0-4.

The Jayhawks jumped out to a 26-16 halftime lead and then held off the hosts the rest of the way.

“It was a grinder,” Jamestown CC coach Travis Wells said. “The kids stuck with it and ground it out.”

Kelly Waleska had 14 points and Courtney Dorr had 10 to pace the CC of Rhode Island.
