Area Teams Find Spots In Cross Country, Soccer Polls

SYRACUSE — The New York State Sportswriters Association released new cross country rankings this week, and the Maple Grove boys team has moved up one spot in Class D to the No. 2 position after opening the year at No. 3. The Red Dragons trail only Beaver River of Section III while Randolph has dropped four spots to the No. 9 position.

After beginning the season in the No. 19 spot, Clymer/Sherman/Panama has fallen one position to No. 20.

In Class C, Southwestern has dropped a pair of spots to No. 11, while Dobbs Ferry sits in the No. 1 spot.

The Maple Grove girls cross country team remains in the No. 2 spot in Class D, still trailing top-ranked South Lewis of Section III.

Now in the No. 7 spot, Clymer/Sherman/Panama has dropped one position from Week 1 while Silver Creek has remained in the No. 8 spot.

Maple Grove boys soccer is staying steady in this week’s Class C rankings.

The Red Dragons are once again in the No. 7 spot, while Lansing holds the top ranking in Week 2.

Maple Grove is 7-0 overall and 4-0 against CCAA Central Division opponents, and currently holds a plus-23 goal differential.

Westfield/Brocton is in the No. 19 spot after not cracking last week’s list. They boast a 5-3 overall record and a 3-1 Central Division mark, which is good for second place.

Ellicottville/West Valley is the No. 6 team in Class D after not making last week’s list. The team sits at 4-1-1 and 2-0-1 at the top of the CCAA East Division as Section VII Chazy leads all teams this week.

Pine Valley has dropped three spots to the No. 9 team and is now 6-2 on the year and 2-2 in the Central.

In Week 1 of the girls soccer rankings, which were released on Tuesday, Olean leads the way with the No. 8 spot in Class B, while Section II Schalmont is in the top spot.

The Huskies sit at 6-1 on the year after dropping their season opener to Hornell.

Also in Class B, Allegany-Limestone (3-2) is an honorable-mention choice.

Maple Grove is No. 13 in Class C after starting the year at 5-1. The Lady Red Dragons trail Section VI Holland (5-2-1), which is in the No. 9 spot, while Section II Stillwater is the top-ranked team (6-0).

Honorable-mention choices in Class C include Silver Creek (6-1) and Frewsburg (3-3).
