Striders Sending Three To Nationals

Bryant, Calamunci, Graham Heading To Greensboro, North Carolina Next Week

EWING, TOWNSHIP, N.J. — Three Chautauqua Striders had quite impressive showings at last weekend’s USA Track & Field Region 2 Junior Olympic Championships at The College of New Jersey.

Now they are going to look to make a splash on a bigger stage.

Dagon Bryant, Giovanna Calamunci and Anton Graham all placed within the top five of their respective events to qualify for next week’s USATF National Junior Olympic Championships at North Carolina A&T University in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Bryant qualified in two events, taking fourth in the 17-18 Men’s Division 2,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 6:58.38 on Friday before taking fourth again in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:47.60 on Saturday. He also took 10th in Sunday’s 800-meter final with a time of 2:10.72.

Calamunci will join Bryant on the trip to North Carolina after she took second in the 15-16 Girls Division 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.64 on Sunday.

Anton Graham will be the third member of the Striders team to head south after he took fifth in the 13-14 Boys Division long jump with a leap of 18 feet, 4 1/4 inches on Saturday.

Harry Monfort just missed out on a trip to nationals after he took sixth in the 15-16 Boys Division 400 meters with a time of 53.60 seconds on Sunday.

Nationals begin Monday, July 23 at 8 a.m. and run through Sunday, July 28 with the final event scheduled to be run at 2 p.m.
