Fredonia Hands Panama Its First Tennis Setback

CHAUTAUQUA — Fredonia (5-0, 5-0) handed Panama (9-1, 8-1) its first CCAA West Division tennis loss of the year, as the Hillbillies used a pair of singles wins to prevail, 3-2, on Wednesday.

Neil Gens topped Carson Heimburg, 6-0, 6-0, at first singles for the winners while Dan Gifford won a three-set battle, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4, against Quinn Payne at second singles for Fredonia.

WESTFIELD — On senior recognition day, the Westfield Wolverines moved to 3-5 overall and in CCAA Division 2 play with a 5-0 shutout of Dunkirk.

Seniors Christian Hammond and Victor Tolentino were able to overcome an opening-set loss to win second doubles, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4, over Dominic Begir and Zachary Ardillo.

At first doubles, Cooper Harris and senior Yuichro Arima posted a 7-6, 6-2 win over Ryan Wills and Joseph Newton.

Marilynn Amborski was a first singles-winner via a 6-4, 6-1 final over Jordan Kooley.

Frewsburg (6-1, 6-1) posted a 3-2 win over Southwestern (4-5, 4-4).

Jameson Sposato topped Eston Shedd, 10-3, at first singles for the winners while Tyler Marchincin and Nik Sanfilippo had a pair of shutouts at second and third singles respectively.
