Southwestern, Maple Grove Roll To CCAA Track & Field Victories

DUNKIRK–The Southwestern boys track and field team moved to 3-0 overall and picked up its first CCAA win thanks to an 84-57 final score over host Dunkirk on Wednesday afternoon.

The Trojans girls team now sports the same record after it topped the Marauders, 107-30.

Eddie Scroxton took home the 1,600 meters in 4:44 for Southwestern, the 800 meters in 2:09 and the 3,200 meters in 10:30 to lead the way.

Nate Ganey claimed the 400 meter sprint in 53.7 for Dunkirk as well as the 200 meters in 24.4 and was joined by double winner Isaiah Velez, who won both the 100 meters (11.8) and the long jump (19-6).

Cooper Pannes was also a double winner for the Trojans in the shot put (39-6) and the discus (121-7).

Leading the Southwestern in the girls meet was Aubin Cotter, as she took home the triple jump (28-8) and the high jump (4-10), while Emilee Hanlon won a trio of events for Dunkirk including the 100 meters (12.8), 400 meters (1:04.0) and the 200 meters (27.1).

DRAGONS WIN AT FREWSBURG

FREWSBURG — Maple Grove (1-0, 1-0) posted a 94-47 CCAA Division III track and field win over host Frewsburg (0-2, 0-1) behind a bevy of double winners.

Carson Crist took home the 100-meter high hurdles in 16.4 and also won the high jump at 5 feet, 2 inches.

Michael Peppy was victorious in the 800 meters (2:06.6) and the 3,200 meters (11:52.1) while Nash Nelson won the 100 meters in 11.7 and the 200 meters in 24.6.

Darius Jones took home the pole vault (8 feet) for the winners and also won the 400-meter hurdles in 1:03.0.

The Maple Grove girls also came away with a victory, 95-39, thanks to a strong performance in the field events from Alyssa Steen. Steen won the shot put with a throw of 32 feet, 11 inches and the discus with a toss of 77 feet, 5 inches.

Chloe Kibbe took home the 100 meters in 13.3 for the winners and the 200 meters in 28.6, while Elsa Gruber led the Lady Red Dragons to wins in the 100-meter hurdles (18.2) and the 400-meter hurdles (1:22.3).

Marisa Schuppenhauer claimed the long jump (14-9) and the triple jump (30-3) for Maple Grove.
