Hill Strikes Out 10 As Red Raiders Win Again
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Jamestown continued its strong start to the season with a 12-3 win over Pikeview (W.Va.) at the Mingo Bay Baseball Classic on Wednesday.
Once again it was a well-balanced offensive effort that aided Jamestown to a win while Matt Hill pitched 4ª innings to earn the win with 10 strikeouts and no walks.
“Bryce (Jackson) pitched great yesterday,” Jamestown coach Dave Roehmholdt said. “Matt came out and had 10 strikeouts in about five innings and Josh (Zielinski) did a great job in relief.”
Zielinski would earn the save, striking out one and walking one, while Jackson was able to contribute two singles with a pair of RBIs at the plate after pitching the Raiders to a season-opening win over Lewisville (S.C.) on Tuesday.
Joining in the offense were Chris Beardsley with a double and a single as well as four runs scored while Hunter Beardsley chipped in two singles. Drew Boggs finished his day with a double and three RBIs.
“Our first day outside this year was Monday for a practice out here, then our first game was Tuesday,” Roehmholdt said. “They have been hitting the ball well. We had 10 hits today from seven guys, yesterday we had 11 hits from eight guys. Everyone is contributing and we are getting run production which is important at this point in the season.”
Jamestown returns to the diamond today at 8 a.m. to take on Sherman (W.Va.).
