This event is a sanctioned Junior Olympic and Xcel State Qualifier for New York and will have gymnasts competing from Pennsylvania, Syracuse, Fredonia and the Buffalo area.

Sherri Melson, program director, wanted to create an event which embraces the community’s rich comedic roots and bring recognition to the creation of the new Comedy Center in Jamestown.

Emily Pfleuger, Flyers gymnastics coach, will be dressed up as Lucy at the gymnastics meet all weekend. Lucy will be singing the National Anthem at each session, handing out Comedy Classic water bottles to Flyers instructional class gymnasts who attend the competition, and will be available for pictures. Also this year’s march out theme for the teams to win a prize is the Three Stooges.

The event will showcase some of the local and surrounding area’s finest. The Comedy Classic kicks off at 1 p.m. Saturday with Xcel silver and gold athletes and will continue with the main event featuring levels 5-9 and Xcel platinum and diamond at 4:30 p.m. On Sunday, the Level 2 gymnasts will begin the day at 8 a.m. At 11 a.m., Level 3 large teams will compete and to conclude the event the Level 3 small teams and Level 4 teams will start at 3 p.m.
