Early Lead Stands Up As Xpress Fall To Pittsburgh
PITTSBURGH, Pa. — All the scoring was done in the first two periods as the Pittsburgh Vengeance (27-6) defeated the Southern Tier Xpress (10-19), 4-2, in the National American Tier 3 Hockey League on Saturday night.
The Xpress never led after falling behind 2-0 in the first period.
Thomas Polster scored from Nick Erker and Justin Bioni at 1:55 of the first period and just 13 seconds later it was Marks Mezsargs scoring from Antonio Filippello and Zachary Servidio to give the hosts a 2-0 edge.
Michael Lamison scored his fifth goal of the season from Ty Rickabaugh at 11:27 of the second period to cut the deficit to 2-1. However, Pittsburgh would make it 3-1 as Jacob Friedman tallied from James Unger at 16:01.
Stuart Pearson scored his 16th of the season from Lamison at 18:48 to make it a one-goal game again. Then, Dominick Glavach scored his 30th goal with just 15 seconds left to increase the lead to what turned out to be a two-goal win for Pittsburgh.
Goalie Brandon Heacock made 32 saves for the Xpress while Tyler Hawk had 20 saves for Pittsburgh.
The Xpress next plays at Wooster on Jan. 13 and Jan. 14.
