CHAUTAUQUA — The seventh annual Charity Golf Classic was held July 30 at Chautauqua Golf Club. The weather was beautiful and a field of 80 golfers played 18 holes on one of the most challenging courses in the area before an overall champion was crowned. Winners of this year’s tournament with a score of 60 were Chris McKinley, Adam McKinley, Jordon Marsh and Matt Fuller. The trophies presented to the winning team were courtesy of The Trophy House.

“The winning team will have bragging rights until next year’s Charity Golf Classic at Chautauqua Golf Club on July 29, as well as free entry to next year’s Charity Classic,” said Jeffrey Smith, St. Susan Center executive director. Smith went on to say that the names of winning team members and a picture will go on a plaque that will be hung proudly at St. Susan Center.

The runners-up from 2016 were also the runners-up this year as Mark Panebianco, Zack Panebianco, Steve Sishco and Evan Gray shot a 61.

“From the moment we arrived we were warmly greeted, treated with respect, catered to and made to feel like part of one big family,” Mark Panebianco said. “The group photo said it all. I look forward to playing again next year and supporting St. Susan’s.”

The day was again complete with several friendly competitions including a unique putting contest where the winner, Aaron Pullan, took home a new freezer courtesy of Acme the Appliance Store. Additional prizes and awards as well as dinner followed at the clubhouse.

“St. Susan Center wishes to expresses special thanks to Jim Pullan of Jamestown Mattress for being the tournament sponsor this year and to all of our added sponsors and participants who came out to support our event,” said Jon DeAngelo, tournament chairperson. “This tournament continues to grow in popularity as we had 24 more players this year than we did last year. Next year we are hoping for over 100 golfers and we are discussing plans for a Ladies Division. ”

St. Susan Center has been feeding the needy and fighting hunger in our community since 1984. The proceeds from the golf tournament come at a good time because of ever-increasing meal counts. Center officials expect to serve 125,000 meals this year.

Anyone wishing to make a donation can mail a check to St. Susan Center, 31 Water St. in Jamestown or visit stsusancenter.org to make an online donation.

Next up on the events calendar for St. Susan Center is Oktobenefest on Tuesday, August 22 at the Southern Tier Brewing Company from 5-9 p.m. All are welcome.
