NORTH EAST, Pa. — For the second straight year, Nate Skonieczny will be representing Jamestown Community College at the NJCAA Wrestling Championships.

Skonieczny was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler on his way to winning the 149-pound weight class at the Region 3/Eastern District 1 championships Sunday at the Liguori Fieldhouse on the campus of Mercyhurst North East.

Skonieczny pinned his opponent in the first period of their finals bout to earn a trip back to nationals at the Mid-American Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa Feb. 24-25.

Skonieczny advanced to the finals with a pair of wins in earlier rounds.

At nationals last year, Skonieczny beat Colby CC’s John Peeden and Nassau CC’s John Sherlock before losing to Harper College’s Cory Pych. In the consolation bracket, Skonieczny beat Labette CC’s Bryan Burnett, Niagara County CC’s Cody McGregor, Rowan College at Gloucester County’s Toby Hague and Northeast Oklahoma A&M’s Kristian Holquin-Mendez to earn third place.
