Falconer Drops To No. 2

Pioneer’s defeat of Falconer at the inaugural Section VI Dual Meet Team Championships on Saturday at Starpoint shook up the Wrestling Review of Western New York’s team rankings, which were released Sunday.

For the first time all season, the Panthers took over the top spot in the Small School team rankings while the Golden Falcons fell into the No. 2 spot. Olean remained at No. 3 while Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Panama jumped Newfane into the No. 5 spot. Fredonia remained No. 6 and Randolph stayed at No. 9.

Niagara Wheatfield took over the top spot among Large Schools after winning the Division I championship Saturday at Starpoint with a victory over new No. 2 Lockport. Clarence dropped from the top spot to No. 3.

Four locals are the top-ranked wrestlers in their respective weight classes with class tournaments awaiting this coming weekend.

Gowanda senior David Poff is No. 1 at 120 pounds, Fredonia junior Hector Colom is No. 1 at 132 pounds, Falconer senior Cameron Page is the top-ranked wrestler at 160 pounds and Maple Grove senior Trevor Micek holds down the top spot at 170 pounds.

Randolph freshman Marcus Evans is No. 2 at 106 pounds, Dunkirk/Silver Creek senior Billy Seiders is No. 2 at 138 pounds, Falconer junior Dan Torres is second-ranked at 152 pounds, Torres’ Golden Falcons’ junior teammate Corey Keefe is No. 2 at 182 pounds and Seiders’ Dunkirk/Silver Creek senior teammate Nick Jones is second-ranked at 285 pounds.

Maple Grove junior Shane Hetrick is No. 3 at 113 pounds, Falconer junior Dylan Ingrao is No. 3 at 145 pounds and Southwestern junior Giuseppe Hoose is third-ranked at 152 pounds.

Local honorable-mention selections include: Fredonia freshman Dalton Gardner (113 pounds), Jamestown junior Cody Pool (113 pounds), Maple Grove senior AJ Putt (120 pounds), Fredonia sophomore Giovani Russo (126 pounds), Dunkirk senior Alton Ingram (170 pounds), Falconer sophomore Robbie Penhollow (170 pounds) and Randolph senior Marshall Johnson (195 pounds).

Randolph junior Matt Evans is listed as injured at 126 pounds and Falconer senior Jacob Peru is listed as injured at 182 pounds.
