Pope Pours In 29 Points, T’Birds Down Frewsburg
ELLICOTTVILLE — Led by the hot hand from junior Devin Pope, Chautauqua Lake advanced to the championship game of the Ellicottville basketball tournament on Saturday.
Pope hit 14-of-17 shots from the field for 29 points as the Thunderbirds downed Frewsburg (1-1), 77-48, in the first round.
Chautauqua Lake (2-0) will now face Ellicottville for the title on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
Pope had 13 points in the first half in leading Chautauqua Lake to a 48-16 advantage. He also finished with four steals and three assists.
Aaron Swan added 12 points and three steals, and Kyler Majka had 11 points for the winners.
Cordell O’Brien netted 19 points and Quinn Conlan tossed in 10 points for Frewsburg.

SHERMAN TOURNEY POSTPONED
SHERMAN — The Sherman girls basketball tournament was postponed for the second time in as many days Saturday.
The tournament has been rescheduled for Tuesday with Sherman taking on Falconer at 5:30 p.m. and Cassadaga Valley meeting Maple Grove at 8:30 p.m.
Also on Tuesday, the Sherman jayvees face Falconer at 4 p.m. and the Cassadaga Valley jayvees clash with Maple Grove at 7 p.m. The championship and consolations dates haven’t been finalized.
