Lawton received a medal for her 23.69-second effort in the event, which was won by sophomore Katherine Douglass of Section I’s Pelham with a time of  22.31 seconds. Douglass set the state record of 22.21 seconds in the preliminaries Friday.

Kristen Romano of Section VIII’s Long Beach and Douglass were named co-Outstanding Swimmers with Section I winning the sectional title and Pittsford of Section V claiming the team championship.

Romano, who previously attended Lancaster, won the 100-yard backstroke with a state record-setting 53.36 and the 100-yard butterfly with a record-shattering time of 53:13 seconds to break a 26-year-old state mark by more than a full second. Romano was also a member of the state record-setting 200-yard medley relay team that won in 1:43.21 and the winning 400-yard freestyle relay team. Other members of those squads were Margaret Aroesty, Caroline Farrell and Joan Cash.

Douglass also captured the 100-yard freestyle in a state-record time of 48.54 seconds.

Deidra Osula of Dunkirk/Fredonia/Silver Creek/Forestville placed 12th with a time of 24.32 in the 50-yard freestyle while Karianne Yuchnitz of Panama was 28th with a clocking of 24.93.

Dunkirk/Fredonia/Silver Creek/Forestville’s 200-yard medley relay finished 11th in 1:50.44. That foursome was Riley Drummond, Kathryn Webster, Osula and Mikayla Reynolds.

Southwestern was 14th in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:40.11. That team was made up of Natalie Fosberg, Megan Seeley, Maddy Nelson and Lawton.

Drummond was 14th in the 100-yard backstroke (57.71) and 29th in the 100-yard freestyle (54.00).

Fosberg, Seeley, Nelson and Lawton finished 14th in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a 1:40.11.

Dunkirk/Fredonia/Silver Creek/Forestville came in 21st in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a 3:43.40. That quartet was Osula, Webster, Mackenzie Quinn and Drummond.

Lindsay Stone of Pittsford claimed the 200-yard freestyle (1:47.30) and 500-yard freestyle (4:47.10) while Pittsford also captured the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:34.34).

For Long Beach, Aroesty won the 100-yard breaststroke (59.85) and the 200-yard individual medley (1:59.51).

Medals were handed out to the top 10 individuals and relays in each event. Ribbons went to individuals who finished 11-20.
