Peppy Crosses Line In 32nd Position

WAPPINGERS FALLS — Junior Michael Peppy had the highest finish for Maple Grove at the New York State Federation cross country final at Bowdoin Park on Saturday.

Peppy finished 32nd (16.54.3) as the Maple Grove boys wound up with 487 points, good for 22nd place overall.

Section IV Watkins Glen was the champion with 145 points followed by Section II Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake with 154 points. Section I Warwick Valley was next with 189 points, Section IX Somers followed with 211 points and Section XI Chaminade rounded out the top five with 230 points.

Noah Carey of Section II Guilderland was the winner with a time of 16:06 followed by Davone Hernandez of Section V Rome Free Academy in 16:12.2 and Silas Dertel of Section IV Ithaca in 16:14.4.

Watkins Glen’s championship run was led by Patrick Hazlitt in 12th place with a 16:33.5, Gabe Planty in 38th place with a 16:59.2, Shawn Rutledge in 44th place with a 17:08.8, Aaron Planty in 72nd place with a 17:25.4, Sam Hanley in 74th place with a 17:26.8, Jacob Carocci in 139th place with a 17:59.4 and Sean Holland in 169th place with a 18:11.7.

Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake was led by 14th-place Evan Brennan with a 16:35.4, 21st-place Tyler Berg with a 16:44.4, 39th-place Aidan Gillooley with a 17:00.5, 73rd-place David Metacarpa with a 17:25.9, 103rd-place Mike Bashant with a 17:44.3, 155th-place Luke Gobel with a 18:06.2 and 206th-place Nick Hunziker with a 18:35.3.

Warwick Valley was led by 11th-place Behailu Bekele-Arcuri with a 16:30.6, 13th-place Tom Gardiner with a 16:33.7, 41st-place Dan Lindstrom with a 17:04.6, 90th-place Thomas Nafash with a 17:39.2, 131st-place Rory Grady with a 17:49.7, 178th-place Kevin Cox with a 18:15.6 and 190th-place Sean Quinn with a 18:22.7.

Maple Grove eighth-grader Ava Crist was invited due to her NYSPHSAA finish and came in 84th place with a 20:30.4 clocking.

Kelsey Chmiel of Section II Saratoga Springs was the winner with an 18:10.2 followed by Katelyn Tuohy of Section I North Rockland with an 18:21.2 and Sammy Watson of Section V Rush-Henrietta with an 18:27.3.

North Rockland was the girls champion with 75 points trailed by Section II Shenendehowa with 125 points, Saratoga Springs with 153 points, Section II Niskayuna with 186 points and Section I Monroe-Woodbury with 212 points.

Leading North Rockland was second-place Tuohy with an 18:10.2, fifth-place Haleigh Morales with an 18:36.5, 29th-place Alexandria Harris with a 19:34.8, 41st-place Kerry O’Connor with a 19:51.2, 61st-place Noelle Feeney with a 20:10.1, 94th-place Britney Pezzementi with a 20:43.3 and 142nd-place Catherine Ruffino with a 21:130.9.

Hannah Reale was in seventh place for runner-up Shenendehowa with an 18:49.3, Julia Zachgo was in eighth place with an 18:58.6, Olivia Lomascolo was in 17th place with a 19:21.6, Charlotte Hartman was in 44th place with a 19:53.2, Emily Dinallo was in 122nd place with a 21:05.1, Taylor Leggett was in 134th place with a 21:15.5 and Elise Maddalone was in 151st place with a 21:32.3.

Chmiel led Saratoga Springs to third place with a first-place showing of 18:10.2. Keellyn Cummings finished in 43rd place with a 19:52.1, Ciara Knott was in 48th place with a 19:56.7, Carly Vetter finished 77th with a 20:25.9, Peyton Engborg was 88th with a 20.37.3, Caroline Starace was 89th with a 20:39 and Mari Ellen Penzer was 136th with a 21:18.6.
