Dakota Gardner Leads Fredonia To Title At C-LV

CATTARAUGUS – Dakota Gardner of champion Fredonia was the most outstanding wrestler at the Cattaraugus-Little Valley Tournament on Saturday.

Gardner won the honor in a vote among the coaches by competing at 152 pounds where he defeated Scott Green of Falconer and led the Hillbillies to the crown with 215.5 points.

Falconer was the runnerup with 183 points followed by St. Francis with 138 points, Portville with 136.5 points and Randolph with 121.5 points.

Warren was sixth with 118 points followed by Dunkirk with 106.5 points, Maple Grove with 104 points and Gowanda with 102.5 points.

Franklinville was 11th with 88 points, host Cattaraugus-Little Valley-Pine Valley was12th with 70 points and Frewsburg 15th with 27.5 points.

Cattaraugus-Little Valley-Pine Valley received the team sportsmanship award.

Dakota Parkhurst of Randolph had the most pins in the least amount of time at 120 pounds. Parkhurst recorded four pins in 18, 18, 27 and 26 seconds.

Other champions from Fredonia were Dalton Gardner (99) and Brandon Wallace (106).

Maple Grove had three wrestlers win titles and they were Shane Hetrick (113), Ryan Hetrick (120) and Trevor Micek (160).

Shane Hetrick raised his record to 31-6 for the season with four wins that was capped by beating Matt Evans of Randolph.

Ryan Hetrick increased his season record to 34-4 and overall to 217-28 for his career by taking care of Parkhurst for his fourth pin in five bouts.

Micek was 5-0 at 160 pounds by defeating Caleb Wares of Cattaraugus-Little Valley-Pine Valley. He increased his record to 29-6.

Falconer had champions in Mike Raynor (132) and Seth Abbey (220). Raynor defeated Brent Bachman of Royalton Hartland-Barker and Abbey downed Ryan Fisk of Fredonia.

Nick Jones of Dunkirk won the title at 285 pounds by beating teammate Alex Jones.

Jacob Tomlinson (132) had two wins for Maple Grove as did Chris Krempa (170) and Mike Krempa (160) added a victory,

ECIC CHAMPIONSHIPS

WHITACRE CLAIMS TITLE

CLARENCE – Brandyn Whitacre was the only Jamestown High School wrestler to win a championship at the Erie County Interscholastic Championships.

Whitacre won at 182 pounds with a technical fall over Lawrence Jenkins of Lake Shore, 16-0. The Red Raiders finished tied for 13th place with Alden with 78 points.

Pioneer won the title with 150 points followed by Iroquois with 147.5 points, Lancaster with 144 points, Lake Shore with 140.5 points and Depew with 126.5 points.

Noah Turzillo of Jamestown took fourth place at 220 pounds after he was pinned by Matt Eldridge of Depew in 2:19.

Jacob Samuelson of Jamestown came in fifth at 145 pounds with a 1-0 win over Dylan Vemen of Iroquois.

Seth MacTavish of Jamestown was sixth at 113 pounds after losing to Trey Wiedemann of Pioneer, 9-8.

NON-LEAGUE

CLCS POSTS SHUTOUT

MAYVILLE – Chautauqua Lake posted a 78-0 shutout over non-league Canisius.

Recording pins for the winners were Bryce Rowe (126), Derek Ecklund (132), Jim Wolfe (138), Kale Gilbert (145), Armando Arce (152), Kendall Carlson (195), Brendon Rowe (99) and Trey Hoyt (120).

The fastest pin was by Arce, who flattened Robert Truelak in 50 seconds at 152 pounds.
