Pine Valley Pulls Away From Clymer In Third Quarter

CLYMER – Alex Bentham sank two 3-pointers and Kate Hoth had one during a third-quarter run for Pine Valley in a girls non-league basketball win over Clymer on Tuesday.

Leading at halftime by a score of 17-9, Pine Valley went on a 13-4 run to make it 30-13 after three periods en route to a 42-22 win.

Jamie Wilcox and Bentham led in scoring with 10 points apiece for the Lady Panthers (3-9, 5-8). Jessica Wilcox had nine rebounds and Jamie Wilcox had seven rebounds in the victory.

Becky King had seven points for Clymer (3-4, 3-9) while teammate Lauren Dunnewald grabbed eight rebounds and tallied six points.

BEARS EARN WIN IN FOURTH QUARTER

FREWSBURG – Emily Johnson scored six points and Olivia Lynn added four points in a 12-9 fourth quarter that gave Frewsburg a hard-fought 41-38 win over non-league Franklinville in their first girls basketball meeting in six years Tuesday.

Ally Haskell’s 3-pointer at the buzzer enabled Franklinville to pull into a 29-29 deadlock after three periods. Then, Johnson and Lynn took over in the final stanza.

The game was close throughout as Frewsburg moved its record to 9-5 and dropped Franklinville to 9-3.

Lynn had a double-double with 13 rebounds and 13 points to go along with four steals, and Johnson had nine points, six steals, three assists and three blocks for the Bears.

Anna O’Neal was a terror on the backboards with 18 rebounds in the loss. Ally Haskell had 14 points and eight rebounds and seventh-grader Dani Haskell 10 points and three steals.

The Frewsburg jayvee team won its first game of the season, 33-20, behind eight points by Rachel Carr.
