The Ball Is Still In Play

As a member of the group called Save Holy Apostles Parish, (a group of interested and devoted people who are attempting to keep it intact, Holy Apostles Parish, which includes worship sites, Saints Peter and Paul and St. John Churches), we’ve been meeting to look at the decision made by the Bishop of the Diocese of Buffalo which includes closing the doors of Saints Peter and Paul Church, attempting to sell it, utilize St. John Church as a Secondary Worship Site, and extinctively merge Holy Apostles Parish (the already merged parish of SSPP and St. John’s) with another local ...

Some Elections Matter More Than Others

With Inauguration Day a few days away, let’s pick up where we left off 13 weeks ago, just before Election Day. The mother in this columnist’s German exchange family, having started school in 1933 and graduated in 1945—think about those years in German history—learned from a young age, and often rightly spoke of, just how quickly ordered liberty, if not successfully defended, can collapse, even in an advanced Western country, and fall to socialist atheist totalitarianism. Such statists can leave their countries in varying degrees and types of ruin. The previous 100 years or so ...

She was my go-to person when it came to canning. I also learned some recipes from her. She was a great cook. In the days when Dick and I were dating, I traveled almost every weekend to Russell. I was teaching in Kenmore, NY. Dick of course, lived on ...

Who Is Mr. Langworthy Really Trying to Help?

It was with disappointment but no surprise to see Mr. Langworthy pushing for ‘Unleashing the Southern Tier’s Energy Potential.’ The questions are why, who will benefit, and who will be harmed? The first question is easy. “Many of the actions by which men have become rich are far more harmful to the community than the obscure crimes of poor men, yet they go unpunished because they do not interfere with the existing order.” - Bertrand Russell During the election, Trump asked energy industry executives to donate $1 billion to aid his campaign to retake the White House. Elon ...

Will Hulk Hogan Be In The Administration?

Now that a Fox News celebrity has been nominated to be Secretary of Defense and a former top executive at World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) tapped to run the Education Department, it would seem likely that there could be a job opening for Hulk Hogan in the federal government. As the old saying goes: “To the victor belong the spoils.” That policy has generally been followed by both Democratic and Republican administrations over the years. I guess the difference this time is that personal loyalty seems paramount over experience and more political appointees are coming from the ...
