There’s no need for the dust to settle from the 2020 election to see one of the casualties.

It’s the last shred of credibility of much of the national press.

It’s gone.

Gone.

One need not be a current-events expert to understand this: If anyone doubted that much of the national press opposes and is biased against Republicans and conservatives in general, or President Trump in particular, no one can reasonably deny it now.

Please don’t take the word of today’s column, which was deliberately written and submitted before Election Day, because the election results don’t affect today’s column.

Instead, please read, listen to, and watch much of the national press for yourself.

Has all of the national press lost its credibility? No, yet much of it has.

Does it have a First Amendment right to be biased? Yes, it does. Yet editorializing in news stories is wrong.

Read many of the big national newspapers.

Read newspapers that run stories from the big national newspapers. For example, one Western New York newspaper, by running biased stories from such publications as the New York Times and the Washington Post, repeats their shortcomings.

Read wire-service stories in any newspaper running them, including your local newspaper. When this columnist was a local-newspaper reporter, none of the reporters in the newsroom would have wanted to get away with bias rampant in wire-service stories.

Listen to network-news broadcasts on local-radio stations. Listen not only to the words they use and the conclusions they draw but also to the tones in their voices. Bias is rampant.

Watch national broadcast-television-network and cable-television-network news. Bias is rampant.

Listen to and watch 2020 presidential- and vice-presidential-debate moderators. Bias is rampant.

In 2016, as election returns came in, one “reporter,” with lips quivering, held back tears as news broke of Hillary Clinton’s loss. Much of the national press had worked hard to elect Clinton and defeat Trump and couldn’t believe its campaign had failed.

That’s what it was: A campaign. Whoever the Democrat presidential candidate is, much of the national press is in effect part of the candidate’s campaign.

After its 2016 loss, which much of the national press never expected, it picked itself up right away and has been after the president and his team ever since.

What a sham.

What a shame.

The bias has been evident not only in what much of the national press does cover but also in what it doesn’t. Two examples will suffice here.

¯ As this column noted in October 2020, even many who aren’t health-care professionals can see that 2020 Democrat presidential candidate Joe Biden is no longer consistently firing on all cognitive cylinders. This isn’t funny. It’s sad at a personal level and serious at a national level.

Much of the national press has ignored the facts. What do you suppose the same “reporters” would do if this were happening to the president?

This isn’t hard to figure out. Just imagine the uproar these “reporters” would create. But this is about Biden, so many such “reporters” have been silent.

¯ The series of stories about Biden initially broken by the New York Post are nothing short of alarming. Biden and Biden supporters have baselessly said they’re a Russian hoax.

Much of the national press has ignored the facts. What do you suppose the same “reporters” would do if the president, working with one of his children, had done what evidence shows Biden, working with one of his children, has done?

This also isn’t hard to figure out. Again, just imagine the uproar these “reporters” would create. But, again, this is about Biden, so many such “reporters” have been silent.

After all of this and so much more, much of the national press has the audacity to decry the president for calling it out for its bias.

“Fake news,” though, is an understatement.
