Dunkirk City Council Foiled By Empathy

To The Reader’s Forum:

Even as a long-time part-time local (Lakewood), I was startled by the egregious lack of empathy proudly displayed by the Dunkirk Council concerning a homeless man living in the city.

Councilwoman Luczkowiak led off with the racist bent, shaded by misogyny. He ‘could save (himself)…He is young healthy Caucasian male.” Not to be outdone, Councilwoman Nichols proposed ‘stopping the locals from giving him clothing and food…” The clincher, from Councilman Stoyle, “it is illegal to feed the deer…There’s gotta be a law against feeding this guy.”

I suspect that there may be a conspiracy in Dunkirk to help the less fortunate. The root of this is likely to be found in the local churches and non-profits. If the City Council is serious about stopping the locals from conspiring with this man, they need to start by closing the churches. Unfortunately, the local police chief, Chief Witkowski, appears to be one of these do-gooders, perhaps even has read the Beatitudes.

Empathy is a slippery slope.
