Paradigm Shift Is Needed For Lake
Readers' Forum
To The Reader’s Forum:
My heart leapt as I read these words from Twan Leenders in the last Sunday edition of The Post-Journal (April 19-20):
“More boat inspections, wash stations, and better signage at launches could significantly reduce the risk of new invasives.”
Finally, a well-known and respected local scientist is putting out the call and I thank him.
There is a wonderful example of how to put action into Twan’s words at Lake George. You can read about it a Lgpc.ny.gov/lake-george-boat-inspections. Their program is in effect each year from May 1-October 31.
Let’s make the shift, as Twan said, toward prevention. Let’s educate ourselves and our community and set a better standard for what we, as citizens, expect from visitors to Chautauqua Lake.
Sincerely,
Sharon Witchey
