Looking For A Difference Choice In Presidential Election

Readers' Forum

To The Reader’s Forum:

A little over two weeks ago, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of Donald Trump when challenging a decision made by a lower court that would have left him off the presidential ballot in the state of Colorado. Several other states were waiting on the results of that challenge in order to decide whether or not they would rule to leave him off the ballot in their states as well. The Supreme Court basically said that one state, such as Colorado, should not be allowed to decide the presidency for the rest of the country. Everyone should get to vote. But, as I watched what happened in Iowa, every one of Trump’s challengers, except Nikki Haley and Chris Christie chose to withdraw from the race. Even though Trump was unwilling to debate any of his challengers, we still don’t get to ask any questions about any of the controversial issues he has been involved in since the end of his presidency, including the violence of January 6, 2021, as well as several other civil suits.

Nonetheless, all but one of two of the Republican candidates said that if Trump was the nominee, they would endorse him for president. When Nikki Haley failed to follow the company line, Trump said that anyone donating to Nikki Hally’s campaign would be blackballed as far as he was concerned. Whatever he meant by that was met by cheers. Since then, even Chris Christie backed out of the race.

You know, I’m not particularly fond of Joe Biden. Neither am I fond of Donald Trump. But, the idea of asking the Republican National Convention to endorse Donald Trump after just one state primary is decidedly undemocratic! I, like the vast majority of Americans, want to be able to vote for someone besides Trump or Biden.
