Who Is Making America Great?

Other than appointing federal judges committed to suppressing voting rights and civil rights, including women’s reproductive rights, and seeking to overturn an election while coordinating an attack on our Capitol, former President Trump’s singular legislative accomplishment while having GOP majorities in the Senate and House was passing the Tax Cut and Jobs Act of 2017.
The Act cut the corporate tax rate from about 35% to 21% and personal income taxes, especially for the wealthiest households with incomes over $308,000. The law had little real impact on job creation, primarily benefited the wealthiest and huge corporations, and will add about $2 trillion to the national debt over ten years.
Contrast that with President Biden’s anticipated Inflation Reduction Act – and all the other significant legislation that has been adopted in his first two years:
American Rescue Plan Act: A sweeping $1.9 trillion relief to address the continued impact of COVID-19 on the economy, public health, state and local governments, individuals, and businesses.
Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act: A $1.2 trillion investment in “hard infrastructure” including roads and bridges.
“Emmett Till Antilynching Act: 120 years after an anti-lynching bill was first introduced and after failing on nearly 200 prior occasions, Congress passed a bill designating lynching as a hate crime. Only three representatives–one each from Texas, Kentucky, and Georgia–voted against the bill.
Bipartisan Safer-Communities Act: This extended background checks for gun purchasers under 21, funding for state red flag laws and other crisis intervention programs, and partial closure of the “boyfriend” loophole.
CHIPS and Science Act: This is the most significant research bill passed in a generation, including a $56 billion investment in American semiconductor production to incentivize companies to move chip production back into the United States.
Honoring our PACT Act: This provides healthcare and other services related to veterans who were exposed to toxic substances during military service.
Inflation Reduction Act, which is expected to be on President Biden’s desk within the next two weeks, will be the largest climate investment in US history, lowers prescription drug prices by giving Medicare the power to negotiate the prices of certain prescription drugs and extends expiring health care subsidies for three years.
Our country needs a government that moves us forward. President Biden is delivering that.
