Time To Change JHS Athletic Team Names
To The Reader’s Forum:
Rickey Armstrong Sr., President of the Seneca Nation of Indians, responded to a petition calling for a change from Jamestown High School’s athletic team names by saying that names like Jamestown’s “degrade, mock, and offend Native traditions, Native culture, and Native people.”
It is time we listen to what our Seneca Nation neighbors are telling us — this name is hurtful and offensive. Their voice and opinion on this issue is the only one that matters. It is past time to change the JHS athletic team names. Let’s turn a new page in our town’s history.
