Team Earns Its Money
To The Reader’s Forum:
I’d like to applaud the Falconer Lady Falcons soccer team for the car wash they held on Saturday, Sept. 7, at the Jamestown Harley Davidson dealership.
Too often today, we see young adults standing at the entrance to Walmart asking for handouts rather than organizing fundraisers and earning the money.
When I was a youth, we held car washes, spaghetti dinners and pancake breakfasts to raise funds for youth group trips. Many local businesses will gladly donate all, or at least a portion of the necessary items to host such an event.
What message is being sent when schools and organizations encourage handouts instead of instilling a work ethic that will help build character, teamwork and value for a dollar earned?
