The True Importance Of Character

To The Reader’s Forum:

First, I would like to thank Dr. Victor for his editorial. It scared me until I read the whole thing.

When I was a kid, we were taught if you are honest and do the right thing, you will be rewarded. This is called “character.”

When we watched “Gunsmoke” on TV, Matt always won at the end because he did the right and honest thing. This is called “Character.” On “Father Knows Best” and “Leave It To Beaver,” the parents always taught the children the honest and fair thing to do. We learned “Character.”

When the Americans and the British beat the Nazis it was because it was the right thing to do. This is called “Character.” When President Reagan said to Russia, “Tear down that wall,” that was “Character.”

A man who has been married three times and has cheated on all three and then paid them not to talk about it, this shows no “Character” whatsoever. This is not the man I want in my White House. Don’t worry, as Yogi says, “It ain’t over till it’s over.”
