Our Local Cummins Engine Plant Saves The Planet

To The Reader’s Forum:

Within many cities and communities all over the country, the rather nebulous topic of good corporate/business citizenship, has been central to any serious community planning. This should have long been so for decades. Essential new business growth and expansion is affected very positively by a current concern for both human and natural environmental preservation.

Of course, we’re thankful for the materials and services these business enterprises provide. But do they also provide good employment opportunities and good environmental-preservation behaviors, to better support sustainable healthy lifestyles and new business growth prospects into the future?

On Saturday, Sept. 22, of this year, Cummins Engine (once again) provided quite a remarkable and massive environmental service to southern Chautauqua County and its residents. Literally, thousands of pounds of batteries, electric & electronic, devices; used oils and paints; used tires, scrap metals and more, were very efficiently collected (on their property) for either recycling or for safe disposal. Herein providing a public choice far better than alternatively these unwanted items cluttering basements, garages, or decaying/defacing private or public property around the countryside!

Perhaps, not so pretty an exercise. But oh, what a beautiful demonstration of dedicated employee participation, good corporate citizenship, environmentalism, and very responsible and highly capable project management too! Business students at Jamestown CC should take notice. Thank you, Cummins Engine!
