Cemetery Receives Community Support

To The Reader’s Forum:

On behalf of the Board of Trustees and staff of Lake View Cemetery, I would like to thank the community for their support of two recent events held at the cemetery.

On Saturday, May 19th the cemetery held its first ever garage sale at our maintenance garage. While I received many questions and some strange looks, the sale was a success. Not only did we clear out an area in the garage so that that the grounds staff will have adequate and safe storage for equipment, but we also raised nearly $700.00 which will be used to purchase American flags for our three veteran’s sections. The community response to this unique event was wonderful.

An even larger community response was witnessed Thursday evening, May 24th when approximately 150 community members came together at Soldier’s Circle to help place flags at veteran’s grave sites; not only at Lake View, but also at Holy Cross and Holy Sepulchre cemeteries. In all a total of nearly 4,500 flags were placed at these three cemeteries alone. The cemetery would like to thank the United Veteran’s Council of Jamestown for their tireless efforts to not only place flags, but also for the planning of the Memorial Day Parade and services held at Soldier’s Circle.

Again, thank you to the Jamestown community, our local veterans, all who volunteered in order to make these events possible and the grounds staff at Lake View Cemetery.
