Discover The Treasure Inside Your Local Library

To The Reader’s Forum:

What a treasure we have in our local libraries! They provide not only free access to current and past books but also many other items. These include free DVDs, downloadable books and audio books, free wireless and high speed Internet, clubs and activities. If a book or DVD can’t be found in your local library, the librarian can contact 38 other libraries in Chautauqua and Cattaraugus counties and they will provide your needed materials. I have used this service many times and am very happy with the quick results.

As a former educator I have experienced what literacy skills mean to children before they enter school. These services also are provided by the library with not only availability to wonderful literature but also to preschool story hours and summer reading programs.

Our libraries aid the whole community. We are the recipients of the outstanding library services in Chautauqua and Cattaraugus counties. We need this to continue and remain stable each year. On Tuesday, May 15, everyone in the Southwestern school district has an opportunity to vote on the New York Education Law 259 referendum to secure yearly funding for the Lakewood library and the Hazeltine Library in Busti. It would cost $$16.11 per $50,000 of assessed property. This is truly a great investment for today and for our children’s future.
