What Happened To The Protestant Reformation?
To The Reader’s Forum:
As we mark the 500th anniversary of the beginning of the Protestant Reformation with Martin Luther’s posting of the 95 issues he had with his Roman Catholic church, my question for today is, “What in fact happened to this Reformation over time, especially the past two centuries?” since we now see that many Protestant denominations are now “making nice” with the “Mother Church” by falling into line with it over much of what they originally protested?
Could it possibly be that, as the various groups breaking away one by one because of issue(s) causing them to separate, and now choosing to “come back to Mama” in part, didn’t originally go far enough, trying to reform her and/or themselves to accept Scripture alone, rather than only certain parts of Scripture along with Mama’s practices of adding her own traditions to that, especially her tradition of reconstituting the Commandments of God into something more suitable and acceptable for her purposes of usurping His rule over humanity and becoming His only acceptable representative on earth? It would appear so, since she credits herself with instituting first-day religious observances, in place of His own origination at Creation of a different holy day than that; namely day seven, the only day of the week which He blessed and sanctified — ever.
What if all of the Reformers had made a complete break with the Roman Catholic hierarchy and firmly held true to honoring God’s holy Sabbath day rather than a human substitute for it, among several other things, and stuck with those for the past five centuries? Might not those few faith movements who do hold to this Bible truth be so widely regarded by some as “weird” or “off the wall”, be much less so, since the entire Protestant movement would be sharing this absolute Bible truth? Just wondering.
