CLP Continues To Be Misrepresented
To The Reader’s Forum:
We’ve read statements made at last week’s County Legislature meeting, heard comments on the radio, read a far-ranging “counterpoint” by two individuals in last Sunday’s Post-Journal and another recently. All focused on the Chautauqua Lake Partnership’s lake improvement efforts, but none appropriately portrayed our work.
Proponents of the status quo had 25 years to prove weed cutting alone was a sufficient near and mid-term weed management method in Chautauqua Lake. Unfortunately, that experiment has failed and lake conditions have deteriorated. So, lake shore residents, Towns and Villages and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation are exploring the use of other weed management methods included in the County’s recently-completed Macrophyte Management Strategy.
It’s hard for those who care about our lake to ask reasonable questions and form valid opinions about Partnership efforts without accurate information.
There will be another opportunity to get that information directly from Partnership officers, directors and others at the “Celebrate the Lake Breakfast.” It will be held at The Village Casino from 9:00 to noon on Saturday, August 19, 2017. We hope to see you and talk with you there.
