Repeal Now, Replace Later Is Not The Way

To The Reader’s Forum:

It looks like the Republican congress persons have torn open a wasps nest with their intense interest in revoking Obamacare. “We promised that we would do it, so now we have to.” they proclaim. But people — even Supreme Court Judges, are entitled to change their minds when they learn something new. As Robert H. Jackson said, in quoting a British Lord, “I can only say that I am amazed that a man of my intelligence should have been guilty of giving such an opinion.” So Messers Ryan and McConnell are running into a buzz saw. Maybe they should change their minds.

The latest ploy seems to be “Repeal Obamacare now, and replace it later.” The result is that not 22 million Americans would lose health care, but that 33 Million would be in that boat.

Can’t we think of a better way? Well, lets see — the Swedes have it; the Finns, the British, the French, Germans, Canadians and many others have it: Universal Health Care. In this country we call it Medicare for all. Why don’t we have it?

I really don’t know, but it goes back to the Obama Presidency, when the GOP viciously attacked him from the day he took office. The GOP-dominated Congress has concentrated on its main mission of trying to destroy President Obama’s legacy. And Mr. Trump has joined the chorus.

Maybe — just maybe — the time has come for a single-payer health program to be put in place in this country, so we can join the rest of the civilized world in taking care of our citizens’ needs.

But that won’t happen as long as the GOP controls Congress.
