Don’t Forget The Paris Accord

To The Reader’s Forum:

In the P-J July 2, 2017, writer Randy Elf outlined some of the many accomplishments of this “transformational” president. These included a constitutionally-oriented Supreme Court, a plan for fair trade, real jobs creation, enforcing immigration laws and so on, but neglected to give credit to President Donald Trump for his withdrawal from the Paris Climate Accord. The Accord would undermine our economy, weaken our sovereignty, impose unacceptable legal risks, put us at a permanent disadvantage to other countries, and shackle us with the environmentalist ideology of anthropogenic climate change.

The Paris Accord is an agreement within the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) “dealing with greenhouse gas emissions mitigation, adaptation and finance.” (Wikipedia). It is administered by an unelected, self-appointed group of people with world governance as its goal.

The accord calls for “Holding the increase in the global average temperature to well below 2∂C above pre-industrial levels…” The scientific/historic record shows that the planet has been warmer than present many times during human history, all well before industrial times. For a variety of reasons, warm periods have been the high points of human civilization.

It was warmer than today one thousand years ago: the Medieval Warming; two thousand years ago: the Roman Warming; three thousand years ago: the Minoan Warming, with significant and rapid cooling periods in between.

The Paris Accord cites man-made carbon dioxide emissions as the problem – as a pollutant, as the cause of global warming or climate change. But CO2 is no pollutant, just the opposite. It is the food for plants. Plants ‘breathe’ in CO2 and turn it into wood, rice, vegetables. Plants release the O2 (oxygen) into the air — which is what we all breathe. We then eat the carbon in the form of fruits and vegetables and use the wood (carbon) to build things. When CO2 was ten times greater than today, life on Earth flourished.

The Paris Accord ignores the role of the Sun (and clouds) as the driver of climate change and accepts the Al Gorean notion that rising temperatures are caused by CO2 increases (ice cores show that CO2 lags behind warming by about 800 years). The Paris Accord is climate alarmism turned into draconian international law — pushing so-called ‘renewables’ such as heavily subsidized wind and solar and penalizing the US for using its cheap energy.

Our President made the right decision withdrawing from the Accord because it is based on unproven, faulty science.
