To the Reader’s Forum:

I was so glad to see the article on the Welch Building on South Portage and Main streets. Hope it gets the attention it deserves.

A lot of people, myself included, would like to see it become a senior citizen complex with several apartments. With the library, churches, restaurants and grocery store within walking distance it would be an ideal location for this type of use.

So many of our senior citizens are moving out of Westfield to these kinds of places. This means leaving their lives behind and having to make a new life far from home and familiar places they have loved and enjoyed for many years.

Everywhere I go this has become the topic of interest for so many of us. Why does this beautiful building sit 95 percent empty when it could be revitalized into a wonderful addition to our town?
