Two Women Honored At Feast Of St. Joseph
To The Readers’ Forum:
On the feast of St. Joseph, March 19, two very ambitious women from Holy Apostles Parish presented a beautiful, authentic, traditional St. Joseph’s Table at St. John’s Church Hall. The Sicilian celebration began with a noon mass, followed by a procession to the table, with Fr. Mende blessing the foods. All attending were then invited to partake.
Carm Ciancio and Sue Boland, together with their many volunteer helpers, had spent several weeks researching, shopping, and preparing so many traditional non-meat items such as frosias, rice balls, salads, lentil soup, “pasts con sarde” … and those wonderful baked goods (braided breads, cookies, lamb and cross cakes, canoli!!). These are the very types of foods that I remember from the St. Joseph Table our Sicilian neighbor made for the “table” she held every year in her own home. The memories flooded into my brain!
If you missed this wonderful parish endeavor, you missed a great event!! Hopefully, Carm and Sue will honor Sicilian tradition again next March, and hopefully, you will support them. Mark your calendars now! It was perfect!!
