Resident Proposes Two-Year Term Limit For Mayor
To The Readers’ Forum:
Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely, and that is why we have in these United States the separation of powers and checks and balances built into the Constitution.
The current mayor of Jamestown has been in office for 16 years. No organized political party opposed him. There was an individual who waged a write-in campaign for the election on the third of November 2015 and was able to get 38 votes, which means, Mr. Sam Teresi was not unopposed. Many of these elected officers of the city of Jamestown take it for granted that their office is a family inheritance. I like to see it changed.
My proposal is for a term limit of two years for the mayor. I like to see the term of members of the council also with two term limits.
