Tom Reed Has Yet To Fulfill Promise Of Jobs

To The Readers’ Forum:

A recent front page article in this paper discussed Tom Reed’s displeasure over the rejection of the Keystone XL Pipeline proposal. This quote from that piece is quite troubling – “Reed said that rejection would kill thousands of jobs that would be associated with the project’s construction.”

Rather than debate the issue of the alleged number of jobs lost, or who would have filled those jobs, we do know that steel earmarked for the project would be sent from India, but then those lost jobs aren’t mentioned, let’s instead look at Reed’s voting record. His voting record on job growth.

Reed has voted consistently with his party to kill every job growth proposal from this administration. He (Reed) has not introduced any viable alternatives to address the jobless, knowing full well that ex-speaker Boehner promised after both recent presidential election defeats that jobs, jobs, jobs was the top priority for Republicans in Congress. We doubt very much that those “promises” will ever be fulfilled by the current House majority.

Reed has stated his concern for the jobless, but his voting record tells a much different story.
