Illegal Dumping Is One Reason To Install More Cameras In City

Stop dumping garbage on Pratt Avenue — or, frankly, anywhere else.

Those who have the ability to haul their garbage to Pratt Avenue have the same ability to haul their garbage to the Chautauqua County Transfer Station in Falconer so that it can be hauled to the landfill. A call to the BPU’s garbage hotline can get items disposed of as well.

We’re not sure if it’s laziness or lack of money, but it continues to be ridiculous that people think it’s OK to throw televisions, tires and old carpets in a pristine woodland avenue like the one on Pratt Avenue. And twice in the past three weeks, that’s exactly what people have done.

Kudos to the Jamestown Police Department for putting cameras in the area that have captured the act. Likewise, kudos to those who have recognized photos of the vehicles and helped police find the culprits.

Jamestown police are asking the City Council’s permission to purchase several new cameras to be installed on utility poles throughout the city. The council should approve the purchase. The illegal dumping on Pratt Avenue is all the reason they should need.
