Sugar Grove Bench A Memorial To Two Men Who Brought Much Enjoyment To The Area

Don and Jerry Frank founded Stateline Speedway in Busti on July 21, 1956, along with their partners Len Briggs, Lloyd Williams and Marv Thorpe.

In the decades since, the speedway has been an institution in the Jamestown-Warren area and a Saturday night tradition passed from many a parent to their children.

It’s fitting, then, that a tribute to Don and Jerry Frank has now been installed in Sugar Grove outside the Bucket Cafe on Main Street.

“Those guys were the staples of the town since the early 50s,” Tom Abbott, he said. “They employed so many people and they were good to everybody.”

Stateline Speedway has meant a lot to the area since its founding 65 years ago. With the track up for sale again, it’s good to see even a small memorial of the Franks’ contribution to our area make its way to Sugar Grove. It’s a small project, but an important one.
