Give Car Show Organizer Credit For Successful Event

For the most past, Saturday’s Los Contricantes car show at Bergman Park went off without a hitch.

That’s a testament to Jose Sanchez, organizer of the car show, who more than kept his word that the event would not be a burden to the neighborhood, and to City Council members who responded to neighborhood concerns and worked with Sanchez to hold the event in a way that wasn’t too intrusive for homeowners near Bergman Park. But it’s important to note the work Sanchez put in with those who planned to attend the show, posting numerous Facebook videos spelling out what was and was not allowed and making clear that those who broke the show and park rules would be removed from event. That had to have helped Saturday.

One can understand the concerns of neighbors when a show that included a rev-off and car stereo competition was first broached — particularly in combination with a show in Dunkirk that created issues for neighborhood residents there. Jamestown’s show created no such issues and should be welcomed back next year as long as the same protocols are followed.
