One Problem Leads To Another, Who Wants The Job?

MaryJo Bauer made the right decision last week. The former mayor of Cassadaga tendered her resignation due to the fact she does not live in the village.

If she had not left the position, she would have been breaking a state law that has a residency requirement for public officials. But her stepping down solves one problem while creating another larger one: who wants the job of Cassadaga mayor?

A quick and short answer: it appears no one. That’s why Bauer was staying on.

Small governments are struggling to find leaders. Many residents do not want the hassle of running sinking ships.

Now is the time for Cassadaga to seriously consider dissolution of its village. There’s less than 700 residents living there — and no one is serious about stepping up to lead.
