Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down
Thumbs up to the Rev. Dayle Keefer’s 42 years in the ministry. Keefer and his wife, Judy, have spent the last 42 years at Fluvanna Community Church and have seen the congregation there grow over time; though Keefer said he’s proud the church has kept the feel of a smaller country church. While the Keefers will leave ministry, both plan to stay very active upon their move to Brunswick, Ohio, where they plan to spend more time with family. Keefer said he plans to write a children’s book while Mrs. Keefer said she plans to write more personal stories. They still have one more Sunday at Fluvanna Community Church, however, and the public is invited to both Sunday services and to a retirement party from 4 to 6 p.m. that will include a chicken barbecue and a cookie and punch social.
Thumbs up to the Spire Theater for working to raise the money for a new roof and, at the same time, creating a day of music. The Raise the Roof Festival takes place from 3 p.m. to midnight today on five stages at the Spire Theater — the InSpire Development Stage, the main Spire Theater stage, the Odyssey Hall stage, the Studio Metro Underground Theater and in the courtyard outside the theater. It is expected to cost $62,000 to fix the theater’s roof, with around $3,000 received already. A complete schedule appeared in Thursday’s edition of The Post-Journal. Thumbs up to Easton Tanner, a wide receiver from Maple Grove, for his record-setting effort Monday. In a game postponed due to weather, Tanner caught six touchdown passes and ran for another, breaking a record previously held by 13 players. Such an effort is obviously a team effort, so congratulations as well to quarterback Carson Crist, the offensive line and the rest of the Maple Grove offense. No one knows what the rest of the season holds, but we’re sure Tanner and Crist will enjoy looking back on Maple Grove’s Week 4 game against Cattaraugus-Little Valley when this season’s over.
