City Needs To Look Into New Source Of Revenue

To The Reader’s Forum:

This editorial is in response to the recent article in The Post-Journal pertaining to low-income housing going into the Gateway Center. Evidently the loft apartments will be for single-parent families with support services. C’mon … how many housing projects does the city of Jamestown need?

We already have the Appleyard housing project that occupies an entire four-cornered block on East Second Street. The city also has the Appleyard project between East Second and East Sixth streets. How many other Section Eight and subsidized buildings exist in the city?

Wasn’t the city recently working on an initiative to combat poverty in the city? How will the infrastructure (water, sewer, roads, etc)? Will it be able to handle an increase in usage?

The city needs to begin to look at other measures that will help increase the tax base. City government is not taking into consideration the already over-burdened, property-owning taxpaying resident in the city of Jamestown.
