Young Gets Projects Moving

It’s amazing how quickly problems can be solved when the right people get involved.

Kudos to state Sen. Catharine Young, R-Olean, for quickly securing a grant that will help the village of Celoron install a water line so that 10 households on Butler Avenue and Seventh Street can have clean water. We’re glad that Celoron officials engaged Young, who once again has proven that she is an effective problem solver for the residents she represents in the state Senate.

The $75,000 grant removes a big hurdle from the project, but a couple of things need to happen before victory can be declared.

As we said in this space previously, we’re sure Jamestown will be a good neighbor through its Board of Public Utilities and find a way to get the project done. We hope that process happens quickly. Jacob Feldt and his neighbors shouldn’t have to wait months while discussions between the village, BPU and city drag on. They have waited long enough. We also hope an avenue can be found — either through grants or some sort of financing — to help the homeowners pay the $1,200 fee to run a line form the main line at the road into their homes. Not everyone has an extra $1,200 in their couch cushions. Some sort of arrangement would be helpful to residents who have lived with this water problem for the better part of a decade.

Young has brought this water line project to the beginning of the home stretch. Now, it’s time for local officials to take it over the finish line.

Starting at $3.50/week.
