Michael Dale Jones, 71, passed away September 30, 2026, from complications following a fall while working on a building project--doing what he loved: creating, building and making things happen.
Born in Roswell, New Mexico, to Donald and Carol Jones, Michael felt a special connection to the desert Southwest. He and his wife, Cecelia, married in 1973 and shared a lifetime together, raising their beloved children, Kristie and Andrew--Andrew, whom they lost in 2023. They traveled across the country as a family and later especially enjoyed time at their second home in Boulder City, Nevada.
Michael was a builder--not only of buildings, but of a life and a family. He saw what could be done, figured out how to do it, and then did the work. He spent 20 years in industrial maintenance and another 20 years building a business. A man of many talents, Michael could turn his hand to carpentry, electrical work, plumbing, heavy equipment and truck driving. There was very little he couldn't figure out how to do. Even in retirement, Michael was happiest working, creating and making something happen--especially for the people he loved.
Michael was kind, generous and deeply devoted to his family. He took tremendous pride in his daughter, Kristie, and his son, Andrew, and in his grandchildren, Kylie, Averi, Jorden and Johnathan. He loved watching them grow, celebrating their accomplishments and being part of their lives. His family was his greatest source of pride and joy.
Michael's lifelong friendships with the "Congo Men" began when they were young, hunting, fishing and camping together, and continued throughout their lives. He treasured those enduring friendships and the many years of memories they shared.
Michael is survived by his wife, Cecelia; his mother, Carol Jones; his daughter, Kristie Jones Schwab; granddaughters, Kylie Schwab and Averi Schwab; grandsons, Jorden Scott and Johnathan Jones; brothers, Jeffrey Jones and Timothy Jones; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and dear friends.
He was predeceased by his father, Donald Jones; his brother, Terry Jones; and his son, Andrew Jones.
Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of Michael on Thursday, October 15, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Peterson Funeral Home, 12 N. Pearl St., Frewsburg, New York.
Rather than sending flowers, honor Michael's memory in a way meaningful to you--lend someone a hand, spend time with the people you love, make a donation to a cause close to your heart, or make something a little better than you found it.
