Marvin G. Oquist

Marvin G. Oquist, 88, of Greenhurst, died Wednesday October 7, 2026, in his home.

Born June 19, 1938, in Jamestown, he was a son of the late Edwin and Theresa Johnson Oquist.

He was a 1957 graduate of Jamestown High School and went on to earn a degree from Jamestown Community College.

He was a Korean War veteran of the US Army where he was proud to be a member of the 7th Division Marksmanship Pistol Team.

Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Cummins Jamestown Engine Plant as a tool and die maker.

He was a member of First Covenant Church, Vikings Lodge, War Vets Recreation and Ellery VFW. His other memberships include Thule Lodge and its Swedish folk dance team and a founder and life member of Der Kobblers.

He was an avid outdoorsman, hunter, trapper, fisherman and car enthusiast.

Surviving are his wife, Sandra VanOrder, whom he married June 7, 1969; four children, Heidi (Rodney) Morgenstern of Bemus Point, Heather (Kevin) Kyser of Bemus Point, Hillary (Steve) Gokey of Maple Grove, MN and Brett (Kelly) Oquist of Egg Harbor Township, NJ; thirteen grandchildren Haley (William) Morgenstern-Flowers, Nickolaus and Holly Morgenstern, Alexander and Anna Gokey, Soren, Sofya, Seth, Simeon, Soraya, and Sveya Kyser, and Astyn and Aidyn Oquist and a nephew, Mark Oquist to whom he was especially close.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Oquist.

No funeral service or visitation will be observed.
