Marvin E. “Sonny” Shellhouse

Marvin E. "Sonny" Shellhouse, 76, of West Ellicott, peacefully left us Sunday October 4, 2026, in Salamanca Rehab and Skilled Nursing.

Born October 23, 1949, in Jamestown, he was a son of the late Marvin W. and Jessie L. Ofterdinger Shellhouse.

Sonny was a patriotic man and loved his country. 1969-73 he served in the US Navy and went on to serve in the Naval Reserves achieving the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer.

Prior to his retirement in 2014, he was employed by the Town of Ellicott as Highway Superintendent. He was extremely proud to have this position and serve his community which created lifelong friendships. A special thanks to John Piazza, Denny Jose, Norm Mattison, and the rest of the crew that faithfully visited him. Your kindness will be remembered.

Sonny was a member of Chautauqua Lake Fishing Association, Celoron Moose Lodge, and Herman Kent Post 777 American Legion.

He is survived by children Melinda (Daniel) Devereaux of Jamestown, Scott Shellhouse of Irving, TX, and Stephanie (Brian Popham) Shellhouse of Jamestown; Brian (Diana) Johnson, Doug (Jane VanEvery) Johnson, Gary (Valerie) Johnson and Tricia (Brian) Conklin all of Lakewood; Fifteen grandchildren; Alexander, Andrew, and Aiden Devereaux, Joshua (Saige Piazza) Miller, Cormac and Keira Popham, Matthew (Autum Cook) Johnson, Heidi (Kody) Luce; Julia (Nick Couse) Johnson and Jordan (Brett) Swan, Eric (Karie) Priester, Nathan (Chloe) Priester, and Sarah (Tom Cocker) Priester, Jacob (Joslyn Brown) Johnson and Avery Johnson. Ten great-grandchildren Aria Devereaux, Everly Johnson, Kendall, Kaylee, Kwynn, and Kaci Couse, Nora and Cian Priester, Delilah Rohlin, Grace Swam, and soon to arrive Revilyn Luce and a brother, Rodney (Bob) Shellhouse of Pittsburgh, PA.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Cynthia Bundy Shellhouse, whom he married November 22, 1985, and who died June 10, 2016.

A special thank you to the staff at Salamanca Rehabilitation and Nursing Center for their loving care.

The funeral will be held at 2 pm Friday in the Lind Funeral Home, where friends will be received from noon to 2 pm Friday just prior to the funeral service.

Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
