Judy was the embodiment of love and kindness. In every role she held, she truly searched for a way to make the day a little brighter, or to make life a little less heavy for everyone she encountered- always putting the needs of others before her own. Her warm smile, sense of humor, and loving heart carried her through her final years as she relished reminiscing with schoolmates, friends, caregivers and family.
As a young woman, Judy enjoyed attending the Westfield Presbyterian Church as a member of the choir, and was active in the Columbine Crown Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star where she was the flag bearer. Additionally, Judy was a gifted knitter and spent many years bowling in the Barcelona Lanes League where she was recognized for high game and high series achievements.
Judy entered the work force in 1959 following graduation from Westfield Academy and Central School, beginning a lengthy career as a Dental Assistant in the Jamestown and Westfield areas with Drs. Carstensen, Johnson, Militello and Scholl. She married her husband of 42 years, the late Richard Haynes, in 1966 and they welcomed their first daughter Melinda a year later, followed by Elizabeth in 1970, and Suzanne in 1971. Her family was her entire world, and she worked tirelessly to provide a loving home.
Later, Judy's career journey brought her to the Brocton Central School district, Johnson's Adult Home as a care giver and finally as a wellness leader at the WCA Home in Fredonia, NY where she led the ladies through crafting activities, chair yoga and cultural outings at Fredonia State College. Valuing each client as though they were family, Judy stated that she cared for them the same way she hoped to be honored when she became their age. As the cafeteria MOM-iter at Brocton Central, Judy cherished each student as she would her own child, complete with chin wiping and spill management. She loved the extra opportunity to see her kids and friends in the middle of the day, always ready with a smile and a warm hug for anyone who needed it. Those were some of her favorite years, and she always spoke fondly of the many youngsters who created a memory and left an imprint upon her heart. You all know who you are, and we thank you.
Judy is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth and Suzanne, her siblings, Elaine, Merillee, Leslie, Bill and Jon, sister-in-law, Anita, brother-in-law, Orlin, numerous Grand and Great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved so dearly. She is pre-deceased by her daughter, Melinda, husband, Richard, brother, Robert, sisters-in law, Florence and Jean, mother, Margaret Burlingame Miller and father, Howard M. Jones.
