Joshua William John Sr.

Joshua William John Sr., 45, of South Loop in Steamburg, NY, he passed away Monday, October 4, 2026 at home after an extended illness with his wife Scarlet at his side.

He was born January 2, 1981 in Buffalo, the son of the late Daniel John Jr. (2022) and Diane McGuire of Steamburg, NY.

He was a first generation member of the Seneca Nation of Indians, Bear Clan. After graduating from Randolph Central School in 1999, he served honorably in the United States Army from January 9, 2002 until his discharge on January 8, 2006 after 2 tours in Iraq as a Combat Engineer.

Josh's passion was operating heavy equipment learned from his grandfathers and had been employed by the Seneca Nation Fish & Wildlife and Conservation prior to his 100% disability rating through the VA.

He enjoyed anything racing as it was naturally in his blood. He built and raced modified stock cars and Go-Carts, was known as "Big Hoss" in racing circles at Lake Erie Speedway, Stateline Speedway, Holland Raceway, and Eriez Speedway. He also enjoyed hunting and playing horse shoes.

He is survived by his longtime companion and wife, Scarlet D. Crowe, four children; PFC Joshua William John Jr. US Army, Vicenza, Italy, Zoelle Nephew of Irving, Jarvis Crowe and Oconee John, both at home, three grandsons, Darius, Allen and Bellamy Nephew of Irving, his mother Diane of Steamburg and Maternal grandmother; Elaine McGuire of Dunkirk.

He is also survived by siblings, Jordan L. John, Brianne L. John, Keana E. John and Kerri Santiago, as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 4-7 PM Friday (October 9, 2026) from the VanRensselaer & Son Funeral Home, 14 Church Street, Randolph, New York 14772 from where funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday. The Rev. Al Meyers. Senior pastor of the Levant Wesleyan Church will officiate. Burial will be next to his father Dan Jr in the Hillside Haven Cemetery, Bunker Hill Road, Steamburg, NY.
