David R. Myers, 85, of Jamestown passed away on October 15th, 2026 after a series of brief illnesses.
A lifelong area resident, Dave was born on August 27th, 1941, the son of the late George and Mary Jane [Samuelson] Myers. He attended Jamestown High School followed by four years of service in the US Air Force, specifically serving under Strategic Air Command [SAC]. For much of his service, he was stationed at Ramey Air Force Base, in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. In his early life he worked for many years as an ambulance driver in the Jamestown area. If you ever rode in a vehicle driven by Dave, then you knew about his habit of pointing out random houses around town and telling stories of something memorable that happened when the ambulance was called to that house, over half a century prior. Later in life, he worked for the Chautauqua County Highway Department as a truck and snowplow driver, retiring in 2001. Dave was a fierce animal lover, and at the heart of that love were dogs. He was a caring, generous person, and a wonderful father and husband. He was stubborn and sometimes cantankerous, and he defied all odds with his longevity, despite decades of uphill medical battles, repeatedly bouncing back from illnesses that typically carry poor prognoses.
He is survived by his wife of nineteen years, Lynn C. Myers, his son Gregory D. Myers, both of Jamestown, a sister, Sally A. Myers of Grantville, GA, a stepson Tyler [Jennifer] Smith, of Randolph, NY. a stepdaughter Deborah Lacks of Bemus Point, NY, and several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his ex-wife and friend Shirley L. Myers and his beloved adopted daughter, Katie the shih Tzu, who we lightheartedly accepted often came before any of us.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, October 20th at Lind Funeral Home in Jamestown. David's funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. in the funeral home. Procession and burial will follow in Allen Cemetery, on Willard Street Extension in Falconer.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be donated to Chautauqua Hospice and Palliative Care or the Chautauqua County Humane Society.
