Alan George Woodard, Sr., " Woody", passed
away on September 23, 2026 in Marshville, NC after a lengthy illness and battle with advanced Alzheimer's disease. He was 89.
Alan was born April 22, 1937 in Hamlet, NY to James Byron and Ruth (Pope) Woodard. He was raised on a farm in Stockton, NY and graduated in 1955 from Chautauqua HS. He attended Alfred State and studied Drafting. On June 28, 1959, he married Joan Herlet, and they raised three children, Alan Jr, Michael and Denise.Alan worked for MRC/TRW/SKF Bearings for 37 years as an Industrial Engineer/Shop Floor Manager.
Alan was an avid outdoorsman-fishing, hunting and gardening in his free time. He was a member of South Hills GC for over 50 years, where he enjoyed golfing with his family and friends . Alan and Joan were active members at Kiantone Congregational Church in Kiantone, NY. In October 2020, Alan and Joan relocated to Stanfield, NC.
The past 2 years, Alan resided at The Haven Memory Care facility in Charlotte, NC.
Alan is survived by his children, Alan Jr(Beth) of Oak Ridge, NC, Michael(Sue) of Stanfield, NC, and Denise Pribis(Barry) of Wade, NC; his grandchildren, Ryan Woodard(Kelsey), Nick Woodard (Kayla) and Alex Woodard (Kathy), Kelly Woodard, Emily Woodard, Joshua Pribis (Cailey) and Cameron Pribis; and eight great grandchildren. Alan is preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Joan, and by his siblings, Kenneth, Elaine and James Jr.
A memorial service will be held Saturday November 21, at 2 PM at Kiantone Congregational Church 646 Kiantone Rd, Jamestown, NY 14701. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to their favorite charity.
